Do Chinese People Care about Climate Change?
In 2018 an article in China focused on whether people in China care about Climate Change. In the summer of 2018, China had significant flash floods, heat waves, and typhoons that rocked the country. Those events have led to a peak interest in whether Chinese people care about Climate Change. With events like the ones they had, it must be in the public’s best interest to focus heavily on the issue. It is what people want to focus on, with China priding itself on being an international leader in global warming response. A survey that was put out asked Chinese residents if global warming is happening, and an overwhelming amount of people participated, with 94.4% of the population participating. Results showed that 66% of people believed that it is a real threat and is currently happening because of human activity.
After the Copenhagen Summit in 2009, a series of policies were made to control environmental greenhouse emissions. Then government-led programs focused on energy conservation and lifestyles that benefited the world’s environment. In China, surveys show overwhelming support for fixing climate change and its impact.
